1, Многих святых почитают как чудотворцев. Более того, совершение даже небольшого числа чудес считается обязательным условием для будущей канонизации праведник, за исключением мучеников, для которых чудотворение не является обязательным. Но лишь весьма немногие святые получили в истории наименование чудотворцев в качестве прибавления к имени. Один из них – святой Петр Чудотворец, епископ Аргосский, что на Пелопоннесе. Память его совершается 3 мая, то есть 16 мая по святоотеческому календарю.

2, По свидетельству жития, святой Петр прожил ровно 70 лет, годы жизни: 852–922. Среди его чудотворений – умножение хлебов в период голода, пророчества о грядущих бедствиях, и, по образу другого Чудотворца, гораздо более древнего, святого Николая, забота о судьбе беззащитных женщин и дев. В его житии она проявлялась как минимум троекратно.

3, По обычаю, установленному им в своей епархии, ежегодно организовывался выкуп из плена пленных соотечественников. Однажды, критские пираты положили глаз на одну плененную девушку и отказали в обмене. С собой они захватили даже сограждан, выступавших посредниками. Но по молитве святого море не дало хода их кораблю, он был перехвачен, а пленники освобождены. В другой раз, некий военный офицер начал было домогаться одной девицы. Святой Петр дал ей прибежище в храме. Силой молитвы он навел на чиновника лихорадку, которая не оставляла его, пока он не отступил от своего замысла в покаянии. Наконец, однажды, и это довольно редкий случай, уникальный даже для житийных повествований, к святому обратилась некая девица, испытывавшая неприязнь к своему будущему жениху.

4, Святой в течение семи дней помазывал ее с молитвой освященным маслом - такое отчетливое указание на смысл семикратного помазания елеем в соборовании - пока ненависть не сменилась любовью. Как тут не вспомнить великого Отца Церкви, святого Августина, в своем богословии учившего, что благодать это свобода и это подаваемая свыше человеку даром способность любить. Святой Петр Чудотворец, покровитель притесняемых, моли Бога о нас!

1, Many saints are venerated as miracle-workers. Moreover, the performance of even a small number of miracles is considered a prerequisite for the future canonization of a righteous person, with the exception of martyrs, for whom the working of miracles is not required. But only a very few saints in history have received the title of “wonder-worker” as an addition to their name. One of them is Saint Peter the Wonderworker, Bishop of Argos in the Peloponnese. His feast day is celebrated on May 3, which is May 16 according to the Old Style, patristic calendar.

2, According to his hagiography, Saint Peter lived exactly 70 years, from 852 to 922. Among his miracles were the multiplication of loaves during a famine, prophecies of coming misfortunes, and—like another, much earlier miracle-worker, Saint Nicholas—a concern for the welfare of defenseless women and young girls. This concern was evident on at least three occasions during his life.

3. According to a custom he established in his diocese, a ransom was organized annually to free captive compatriots. Once, Cretan pirates set their sights on a captive girl and refused to exchange her. They even took some of their own countrymen—who had acted as mediators—hostage. But through the saint’s prayers, the sea prevented their ship from sailing; it was intercepted, and the captives were freed. On another occasion, a certain military officer began to harass a young woman. Saint Peter gave her refuge in the church. Through the power of prayer, he brought a fever upon the official, which did not leave him until he renounced his plan in repentance. Finally, on one occasion—a rather rare occurrence, and a unique one even in hagiographic accounts—a young woman who harbored ill will toward her future fiancé turned to the saint for help.

4, For seven days, the saint anointed her with consecrated oil while praying—a clear indication of the significance of the sevenfold anointing with oil in the sacrament of the anointing of the sick in the Orthodox Church —until hatred gave way to love. How can we fail to recall the great Father of the Church, Saint Augustine, who taught in his theology that grace is freedom and the ability to love, given to man as a gift from above. Saint Peter the Wonderworker, patron of the oppressed, pray to God for us!

1, De nombreux saints sont vénérés comme thaumaturges. De plus, l'accomplissement d'un nombre même restreint de miracles est considéré comme une condition indispensable à la future canonisation d'un juste, à l'exception des martyrs, pour lesquels la thaumaturgie n'est pas obligatoire. Mais très peu de saints dans l'histoire ont reçu le titre de thaumaturge en complément de leur nom. L'un d'entre eux est saint Pierre le Thaumaturge, évêque d'Argos, dans le Péloponnèse. Sa fête est célébrée le 3 mai, soit le 16 mai selon le calendrier patristique.

2, D'après sa vie, saint Pierre vécut exactement 70 ans, de 852 à 922. Parmi ses miracles, on compte la multiplication des pains en période de famine, des prophéties sur les malheurs à venir et, à l'instar d'un autre thaumaturge bien plus ancien, saint Nicolas, le souci du sort des femmes et des jeunes filles sans défense. Dans sa vie, cela s'est manifesté au moins à trois reprises.

3. Selon la coutume qu'il avait instaurée dans son diocèse, on organisait chaque année le rachat de compatriotes captifs. Un jour, des pirates crétois jetèrent leur dévolu sur une jeune fille captive et refusèrent de la libérer en échange. Ils emmenèrent même avec eux des concitoyens qui avaient servi de médiateurs. Mais grâce à la prière du saint, la mer empêcha leur navire d’avancer ; celui-ci fut intercepté et les captifs libérés. Une autre fois, un officier militaire commença à importuner une jeune fille. Saint Pierre lui donna refuge dans le temple. Par la force de la prière, il provoqua chez le fonctionnaire une fièvre qui ne le quitta pas tant qu’il ne se fut pas repenti et n’eut pas renoncé à son projet. Enfin, un jour, ce qui est assez rare, voire unique même dans les récits hagiographiques, une jeune fille qui éprouvait de l'aversion pour son futur époux s'adressa au saint.

4, Pendant sept jours, le saint l'oignit d'huile consacrée en priant – ce qui constitue une indication très claire de la signification de l'onction septuple à l'huile lors du sacrement de l’onction des malades dans l’Église orthodoxe – jusqu'à ce que la haine fasse place à l'amour. Comment ne pas se souvenir ici du grand Père de l’Église, saint Augustin, qui enseignait dans sa théologie que la grâce est liberté et qu’elle est cette capacité d’aimer donnée à l’homme par le Ciel. Saint Pierre le Thaumaturge, protecteur des opprimés, prie Dieu pour nous !
