Получается, что если Ромео и Джульетта действительно существовали - Шекспир поместил действие своей пьесы именно в Верону - они призывали святого Зенона в своих молитвах.

1, Сведения о святом дошли до нас из народного почитания, жития, многочисленных проповедей самого святого Зенона, которые сохранились, а также из упоминания о его святости в произведениях древних великих Отцов Церкви, святого Амвросия Медиоланского и Григория Двоеслова.

2, Из посланий святого Амвросия, младшего современника Зенона, мы узнаем, что последний был восьмым по счету епископом города и праведником, а Папа Григорий рассказывает о том, что когда Верону постило грандиозное наводнение, вода перед церковью, где покоился святой Зенон, встала стеной и не затопила святыню.

3, На основании проповедей святого Зенона можно сделать вывод, что он был епископом города в течение восьми лет, и отошел ко Господу 25 апреля, то есть 12го по святоотеческому юлианскому календарю, 370 года. Если условно разделить Отцов Церкви на великих и малых, больших и меньших, по подобию библейских пророков, то получится, что Зенон был из числа малых или меньших Отцов Церкви.

4, Святой Зенон был сторонником Никейского Православия, язык его проповедей напоминает древних африканских богословов, Тертуллиана и Киприана Карфагенского. Он не принимал участия в поистине сокрушительных догматических баталиях того времени, проповеди его не выходили за пределы родного города, евангелизацией которого он с великим успехом занимался. Предполагается, что именно при нем город будущих Ромео и Джульетты стал полностью христианским.

5, Святой Зенон пришел в Верону из Римской Африки, родился, подобно святому Августину, на территории Алжира, писал и думал по латыни. Сохранившиеся старинные образы изображают его темнокожим. Так делается очевидным, что проповедь Евангелия в современных условиях, это не просто возможная опция, но обязанность возвратить долг тем народам, которые некогда, более чем полторы тысячи лет назад, буквально подарили нашим языческим странам христианство. On April 25, the Church commemorates Saint Zeno, Bishop of Verona. He was a saint from the fourth century and the city’s patron saint. His relics rest in the cathedral. It turns out that if Romeo and Juliet really existed—Shakespeare set his play in Verona—they would have invoked Saint Zeno in their prayers.

1, Our knowledge of the saint comes from popular piety, the written text of his life, the many sermons by Saint Zeno himself that have been preserved, as well as references to his holiness in the works of the great Church Fathers, Saint Ambrose of Milan and Gregory the Great.

2, From the letters of Saint Ambrose, a contemporary of Zeno, we learn that Zeno was the eighth bishop of the city and a righteous man, while Pope Gregory recounts that when a massive flood struck Verona, the water in front of the church where Saint Zeno was buried rose like a wall and did not flood the sanctuary.

3, Based on the sermons of Saint Zeno, we can conclude that he served as bishop of the city for eight years and passed away on April 25—that is, the 12th according to the Julian calendar used by the Church Fathers—in the year 370. If we were to divide the Church Fathers into major and minor ones, by analogy with the biblical prophets, it would follow that Zeno was among the minor Church Fathers.

4, Saint Zeno was a proponent of Nicene Orthodoxy; the language of his sermons echoes that of the ancient African theologians Tertullian and Cyprian of Carthage. He did not take part in the truly devastating dogmatic battles of that time; his sermons did not extend beyond the boundaries of his hometown, where he engaged in evangelization with great success. It is believed that it was during his episcopate that the city of the future Romeo and Juliet became entirely Christian.

5, Saint Zeno came to Verona from Roman Africa; like Saint Augustine, he was born in what is now Algeria and wrote and thought in Latin. Surviving ancient depictions portray him as dark-skinned. Thus, it becomes clear that preaching the Gospel in today’s world is not merely a possible option, but a duty to repay a debt to those peoples who, more than fifteen hundred years ago, literally gifted Christianity to our pagan lands. Christ is Risen!

Le 25 avril, l'Église célèbre la mémoire de saint Zénon, évêque de Vérone. C'est un saint ancien du IVe siècle et le saint patron de la ville. Ses reliques reposent dans la cathédrale. Il s'ensuit que si Roméo et Juliette ont réellement existé – Shakespeare ayant situé l'action de son œuvre précisément à Vérone –, ils invoquaient saint Zénon dans leurs prières.

1, Les informations concernant le saint nous sont parvenues grâce à la piété populaire, à sa vie écrite, aux nombreux sermons du saint Zénon lui-même qui ont été conservés, ainsi qu’aux mentions de sa sainteté dans les œuvres des grands Pères de l’Église, saint Ambroise de Milan et Grégoire le Grand.

2, D'après les lettres de saint Ambroise, contemporain de Zénon, nous apprenons que Zénon fut le huitième évêque de la ville et un homme vertueux, tandis que le pape Grégoire raconte que, lorsqu'une inondation massive frappa Vérone, l'eau devant l'église où saint Zénon était enterré s'éleva comme un mur et n'inonda pas le sanctuaire.

3, D'après les sermons de saint Zénon, on peut conclure qu'il fut évêque de la ville pendant huit ans et qu'il est décédé le 25 avril — c'est-à-dire le 12 selon le calendrier julien utilisé par les Pères de l'Église — en l'an 370. Si l'on devait classer les Pères de l'Église en deux catégories, les majeurs et les mineurs, par analogie avec les prophètes bibliques, il s'ensuivrait que Zénon faisait partie des Pères de l'Église mineurs.

4, Saint Zénon était un partisan de l'orthodoxie nicéenne; le langage de ses sermons rappelle celui des anciens théologiens africains, Tertullien et Cyprien de Carthage. Il ne prit pas part aux batailles dogmatiques véritablement acharnées de l'époque ; ses prêches ne dépassaient pas les limites de sa ville natale, dont il assurait l'évangélisation avec un grand succès. On pense que c'est sous son épiscopat que la ville des futurs Roméo et Juliette est devenue entièrement chrétienne.

5, Saint Zénon est arrivé à Vérone en provenance de l'Afrique romaine ; tout comme saint Augustin, il est né dans ce qui est aujourd'hui l'Algérie, et écrivait et pensait en latin. Les représentations antiques qui nous sont parvenues le dépeignent comme un homme à la peau foncée. Il apparaît donc clairement que prêcher l'Évangile dans le monde d'aujourd'hui n'est pas simplement une option possible, mais un devoir pour rembourser une dette envers ces peuples qui, il y a plus de mille cinq cents ans, ont littéralement offert le christianisme à nos terres païennes. Le Christ est ressuscité !
