Dans l'Église orthodoxe, le contenu des offices religieux des trois premiers jours de la Semaine Sainte revêt un caractère apocalyptique manifeste. Parallèlement, chaque jour, du lundi au mercredi, est associé à une réflexion thématique distincte sur les textes des Écritures de l'Ancien et du Nouveau Testament. La méditation de l'Ancien Testament du lundi porte sur l'histoire du patriarche biblique Joseph, que la tradition, afin de le distinguer de Joseph le Juste, qui était le père de Jésus selon la Loi, appelle « Joseph le Beau ».

Selon le Livre de la Genèse, Joseph fut vendu en Égypte par ses propres frères, poussés par la jalousie. Là-bas, il faillit mourir en prison sur la base d’une fausse accusation, mais il finit par sauver non seulement l’Égypte, mais aussi ses frères, en devenant le dirigeant du pays pendant la terrible famine qui frappa tout le Proche-Orient. Le Typikon prescrit la lecture d'un traité édifiant particulier sur saint Joseph, dont l'hagiographie attribue la paternité au Père de l'Église et grand théologien syrien du IVe siècle, Éphrem le Syrien (306-370). Au 19-me siècle, saint Ignace Brianchaninov (1807-1867), de l'Église russe, a écrit une un traité, une sorte de poème en prose, sur saint Joseph. Elle frappe par la profondeur du sentiment religieux, les perspicacités psychologiques et la mélancolie sacrée propres à cet évêque solitaire, mystique et ascète. Le leitmotiv de la liturgie du Lundi Saint et des Pères de l’Église : Joseph est le prototype de Jésus. En lui, on trouve, jusque dans les moindres détails, une indication étonnante des mystères de notre salut.

L'histoire évangélique du figuier que Jésus a maudit et qui s'est desséché est l'un des textes évangéliques les plus difficiles à comprendre. La raison en est que l'Évangile lui-même indique que la cause de la malédiction était l'absence de fruit. Or, l'Évangile précise que le moment n'était pas encore venu pour que le fruit apparaisse. Le figuier et sa malédiction constituent une prophétie du Seigneur Jésus sur Lui-même. Il ne devait pas mourir, Il a pris sur Lui la malédiction du genre humain. Sa mort sur la Croix a apporté le salut.

In the Orthodox Church, the content of the divine services during the first three days of Holy Week has a distinctly apocalyptic character. At the same time, each day—from Monday through Wednesday—is associated with its own distinct thematic reflection on passages from the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments. Monday’s Old Testament reflection is the story of the biblical Patriarch Joseph, whom tradition, to distinguish him from Joseph the Just, who was Jesus’ father according to the Law, calls “Joseph the Beautiful.”

According to the Book of Genesis, Joseph was sold into slavery in Egypt by his own brothers out of jealousy. There, he nearly perished in prison on false charges but ultimately saved not only Egypt but also his brothers, becoming the ruler of the country during the most severe famine that struck the entire Middle East. The biblical reading about Joseph is read during the divine service.

The Typikon prescribes the reading of a special edifying treatise on Saint Joseph, which hagiography attributes to the Church Father and great 4th-century theologian, Ephrem the Syrian (306-370). In the century before last, Ignatius Bryanchaninov (1807-1867), a saint of the Russian Church, wrote a special “Sacred Tale” about Saint Joseph. It is striking for the depth of religious feeling, psychological insights, and sacred melancholy characteristic of this solitary bishop, mystic, and ascetic. The leitmotif of the Divine Liturgy and the Church Fathers: Joseph is the prototype of Jesus. In him lies an astonishing indication, down to the smallest detail, of the mysteries of our salvation.

The Gospel story of the fig tree that Jesus cursed and which withered is one of the most difficult Gospel passages to understand. The reason for this is the Gospel’s own indication that the cause of the curse was the tree’s lack of fruit. At the same time, the Gospel itself confirms that the time for the fruit had not yet come. The fig tree and its cursing are a prophecy of the Lord Jesus concerning Himself. He was not meant to die; He took upon Himself the curse of the human race. His death on the Cross brought salvation.

В Православной Церкви содержание богослужений первых трех дней Страстной Седмицы носят явственный апокалиптический характер. Одновременно, каждому дню, от понедельника до среды, связано свое отдельное тематическое размышление над текстами Священного Писания Ветхого и Нового Завета. Она поражает глубиной религиозного чувства, психологических прозрений и священной меланхолии, свойственной этому одинокому епископу, мистику и аскету. Лейтмотив богослужения и Отцов Церкви: Иосиф - прообраз Иисуса. В нем удивительное в мельчайших подробностях указание на тайны нашего спасения.

Евангельская история о смоковнице, которую проклял Иисус и она засохла, один из самых сложных для понимания евангельских текстов. Причиной тому указание самого Евангелия о том, что причиной проклятия послужило отсутствие плодов. При этом само Евангелие подчёркивает, что для плодов в тот момент еще не пришло время. Смоковница и ее проклятие - это пророчество Господа Иисуса о Себе Самом. Он не должен был умирать, Он взял на Себя проклятие рода человеческого. Его смерть на Кресте принесла спасение.
