Мало кто знает, кто рукоположил святого Иеронима в священники, кто святого Августина – в епископы, и, наконец, кто во времена Французской революции рукоположил святого Серафима Саровского во диаконы, а затем и в священники. А вот святой Патрик Ирландский был рукоположен в епископы святым Германом Осерским. «Он – величайший из всех святых Германов», – гласит старая поговорка. Пожалуй лишь, парижане, почитающие святого Германа Парижского, или американские православные христиане, наследники Германа Аляскинского, будут иметь иное мнение.

Few people know who ordained Saint Jerome to the priesthood, who made Saint Augustine a bishop, and finally, who, during the years of the French Revolution, ordained Saint Seraphim of Sarov to the deaconate and then to the priesthood. But Saint Patrick of Ireland was made a bishop by Saint Germanus of Auxerre. "“He is the greatest of all the saints named Germanus”," goes the old saying. But perhaps the Parisians, who revere Saint Germanus of Paris, or the Orthodox in the USA, the heirs of Germanus of Alaska, will have a different opinion.

Peu de gens savent qui a ordonné saint Jérôme prêtre, qui a fait de saint Augustin un évêque et, enfin, qui, pendant la Révolution française, a ordonné saint Séraphin de Sarov au diaconat puis à la prêtrise. Mais saint Patrick d'Irlande a été ordonné évêque par saint Germain d'Auxerre. « « Il est le plus grand de tous les saints nommés Germain », dit le vieil adage. Mais peut-être les Parisiens, qui vénèrent saint Germain de Paris, ou les orthodoxes américains, héritiers d'Herman d'Alaska, auront-ils un avis différent.

Nur wenige wissen, wer den Heiligen Hieronymus zum Priester, den Heiligen Augustinus zum Bischof und schließlich, wer während der Französischen Revolution den Heiligen Seraphim von Sarow zum Diakon und später zum Priester weihte. Der Heilige Patrick von Irland hingegen wurde vom Heiligen Germanus von Auxerre zum Bischof geweiht. „Er ist der größte aller Heiligen namens Germanus“, so lautet ein altes Sprichwort. Doch vielleicht sind die Pariser, die den Heiligen Germanus von Paris verehren, oder die amerikanischen orthodoxen Christen, die Erben Germanns von Alaska, anderer Meinung.

1 13 августа Церковь празднует память святого Германа Осерского. Название города Осер произносится иначе, чем пишется. Поэтому если написано оно латиницей, Auxerre, найти его будет для славянина, пользующегося кириллицей, довольно непросто. Это очень небольшой, но исторически невероятно важный город на северо-западе Бургундии.

2 Российским футбольным болельщикам он известен благодаря тому, что жребий довольно часто сводил советские, а затем российские команды с клубом из Осера, символом которого является толстый ежик. В городе с населением в сорок тысяч жителей тридцать пять исторических памятников и целых три музея национального значения для Франции. Винодельческий регион Шабли — это тоже достояние Осера.

3 В значительной степени своей славой город обязан древнему галльскому православному христианству. Постоянная епархия здесь возникла еще до Миланского эдикта, в середине третьего века. В четвертом-пятом веках город пережил было период упадка, но возродился благодаря великому древнему святому Герману Осерскому (380–448). Он происходил из окрестностей Осера и первоначально был высоким сановником, а затем и вовсе губернатором в Галлии.

4 После 410 году Герман пережил обращение в христианство, и, по откровению свыше, с 418 года был поставлен епископом Осера, каковым был в течение тридцати лет до своей кончины, которая произошла в тогдашней столице Западной Римской Империи Равенне, где он находился по делам ходатайства о своей пастве.

5 Герман основал важные монастыри, включая позднее аббатство в Осере, которое и по сей день носит его имя. Будучи апостолом Британии, он сам проповедовал на островах. Святой Патрик, будущий апостол Ирландии, много лет прожил в Осере. Именно Герман рукоположил его в епископы!

6 Память о святом Германе – это невероятная возможность осознать, насколько современная цивилизация обязана великим древним праведникам. Наш современник и великий святой, епископ Иоанн Шанхайский (1896–1966), призывал к возрождению почитания древних западных православных святых. Во исполнение этого завета святой Герман Осерский был включён в календарь Русской Православной Церкви в 2017 году.

1 Am 13. August feiert die Kirche das Gedenken an den Heiligen Germanus von Auxerre. Der Name der Stadt Auxerre wird anders ausgesprochen als geschrieben. Daher wird es für einen deutschsprachigen, der die französische Sprache nicht beherrscht, nicht einfach sein, ihn zu finden, wenn es Auxerre geschrieben ist. Auxerre ist eine sehr kleine, aber historisch unglaublich bedeutende Stadt im Nordwesten Burgunds.

2 Fußballfans kennen sie, weil die Auslosung oft ihre Mannschaften mit dem Verein aus Auxerre zusammenbrachte, dessen Symbol ein dicker Igel ist. In der Stadt mit 40.000 Einwohnern gibt es 35 historische Denkmäler und drei Museen von nationaler Bedeutung für Frankreich. Auch die Weinregion Chablis ist ein Erbe Auxerres.

3 Die Stadt verdankt ihren Ruhm zu einem großen Teil dem alten dem alten gallisch-apostolischen Christentum der alten ungeteilten Kirche des ersten Jahrtausends. Bereits vor dem Mailänder Edikt, Mitte des 3. Jahrhunderts, entstand hier eine eigenständige Diözese. Im vierten und fünften Jahrhundert erlebte die Stadt eine Zeit des Niedergangs, wurde aber dank des großen antiken Heiligen Germanus von Auxerre (380–448) wiederbelebt. Er stammte aus der Umgebung von Auxerre und war zunächst ein hoher Würdenträger, später sogar Gouverneur in Gallien.

4 Nach 410 konvertierte Germanus zum Christentum und wurde 418 durch eine übernatürliche Vision zum Bischof von Auxerre ernannt. Diese Funktion behielt er dreißig Jahre lang bis zu seinem Tod inne. Dieser ereignete sich in der damaligen Hauptstadt des Weströmischen Reiches, Ravenna, wo er geschäftlich für seine Gemeinde Fürsprache einlegte.

5 Germanus gründete bedeutende Klöster, darunter die spätere Abtei in Auxerre, die bis heute seinen Namen trägt. Als Apostel Britanniens predigte er selbst auf den Inseln. Der spätere Apostel Irlands, der heilige Patrick, lebte lange Zeit in Auxerre. Es war Germanus, der ihn zum Bischof weihte!

6 Die Erinnerung an den Heiligen Germanus stellt eine unglaubliche Chance dar, wahrzunehmen, wie viel die moderne Zivilisation den großen alten orthodoxen katholischen Heiligen verdankt. Unser Zeitgenosse und großer Heiliger, Bischof Johannes von Shanghai (1896-1966), rief dazu auf, die Verehrung der alten westlichen orthodoxen Heiligen wiederzubeleben. In Erfüllung dieses Vermächtnisses wurde der Heilige Germanus von Auxerre 2017 in den Kalender der Russischen Kirche aufgenommen.

Saint Germain d'Auxerre

1 Le 13 août, l'église célèbre la mémoire de saint Germain d'Auxerre. Le nom de la ville d'Auxerre se prononce différemment de son orthographe. Il sera donc difficile pour un non francophone ne parlant pas français de la retrouver si elle s'écrit Auxerre. Auxerre est une toute petite ville, mais historiquement importante, du nord-ouest de la Bourgogne.

2 Les supporters de football la connaissent car le tirage au sort associait souvent leurs équipes au club d'Auxerre, dont le symbole est un gros hérisson. La ville de 40 000 habitants compte 35 monuments historiques et trois musées d'importance nationale. Le vignoble de Chablis fait également partie du patrimoine d'Auxerre.

3 La ville doit sa renommée en grande partie au christianisme gallo-apostolique ancien de l'Église indivise du premier millénaire. Avant même l'édit de Milan, au milieu du IIIe siècle, un diocèse indépendant y a vu le jour. Aux IVe et Ve siècles, la ville la ville était sur le point de tomber en déclin, mais connut un renouveau grâce au grand saint Germain d'Auxerre (380-448). Originaire des environs d'Auxerre, il fut d'abord un haut dignitaire, puis même gouverneur des Gaules.

4 Après 410, Germain se convertit au christianisme et, grâce à une vision surnaturelle, fut nommé évêque d'Auxerre en 418. Il occupa ce poste pendant 30 ans, jusqu'à sa mort, survenue à Ravenne, alors capitale de l'Empire romain d'Occident, où il intercédait pour sa congrégation.

5 Germain fonda d'importants monastères, dont la future abbaye d'Auxerre, qui porte encore son nom aujourd'hui. Apôtre de la Grande Bretagne, il prêcha lui-même dans les îles. Saint Patrick, futur apôtre d'Irlande, vécut longtemps à Auxerre. C'est Germain qui l'ordonna évêque !

6 La mémoire de saint Germain représente une occasion exceptionnelle de reconnaître tout ce que la civilisation moderne doit aux grands saints catholiques orthodoxes de l'Antiquité. Notre contemporain et grand saint, l'évêque Jean de Shanghai (1896-1966), a appelé à un renouveau de la vénération des anciens saints orthodoxes occidentaux. En accomplissement de cet héritage, saint Germain d'Auxerre a été inscrit au calendrier de l'Église russe en 2017.

Saint Germanus of Auxerre

1 On August 13, the church celebrates the memory of Saint Germanus of Auxerre. The name of the city of Auxerre is pronounced differently from its spelling. It will therefore be difficult for a non-French speaker to find it if it is spelled Auxerre. Auxerre is a very small but historically important city in northwest Burgundy.

2 Football fans know it because the draw often paired their teams with the Auxerre club, whose symbol is a large hedgehog. The city of 40,000 inhabitants has 35 historical monuments and three museums of national importance. The Chablis vineyard is also part of Auxerre's heritage.

3 The city owes its fame largely to the ancient Gallo-Apostolic Christianity of the undivided Church of the first millennium. Even before the Edict of Milan, in the mid-3rd century, an independent diocese was established there. In the 4th and 5th centuries, the city was on the verge of decline but experienced a revival thanks to the great Saint Germanus of Auxerre (380-448). A native of the Auxerre area, he was first a high-ranking official, then even governor of Gaul.

4 After 410, Germanus converted to Christianity and, thanks to a supernatural vision, was appointed Bishop of Auxerre in 418. He held this position for 30 years, until his death in Ravenna, then the capital of the Western Roman Empire, where he interceded for his congregation.

5 Germanus founded important monasteries, including the future Abbey of Auxerre, which still bears his name today. An Apostle of Great Britain, he himself preached in the islands. Saint Patrick, the future Apostle of Ireland, lived for a long time in Auxerre. It was Germanus who ordained him bishop!

6 The memory of Saint Germanus represents an exceptional opportunity to recognize all that modern civilization owes to the great Orthodox Catholic saints of Antiquity. Our contemporary and great saint, Bishop John of Shanghai (1896-1966), called for a revival of the veneration of ancient Western Orthodox saints. In fulfillment of this legacy, Saint Germain of Auxerre was inscribed on the calendar of the Russian Church in 2017.
